DOS OJOS

The Bat Cave dive is the darkest and most mysterious of the two dives in the Dos Ojos system. This route takes you through a series of chambers and passages beneath a bat-filled cavern, where only a faint ray of natural light enters. During the dive, you can ascend for a moment to marvel at the stunning rock formations and observe the bats hiding among the stalactites.

A good buoyancy control is required, as you will literally be flying through passageways decorated with delicate and fragile formations.

For cave divers, Dos Ojos is truly a paradise: today it forms part of the longest underwater river system in the world, with over 360 km of caves already explored and mapped, along with dozens of interconnected cenotes that reveal the greatness and complexity of this underground wonder.

For non-divers, the two cenotes of “Dos Ojos” are the perfect spot for snorkeling and swimming, allowing you to enjoy these natural marvels up close.

ANGELITA – AKTUN HA

Angelita, is not just an atypical cenote – it’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime diving experience.

Located only 17 km south of Tulum, this circular-shaped cenote might look simple on the surface, but it hides a breathtaking secret. Dropping down more than 60 meters (180 ft), its magic begins around 25 meters (75 ft), where divers encounter a mystical hydrogen sulfide cloud. Rising branches and tree trunks pierce through this cloud, creating the surreal impression of diving through a submerged forest at night.

Beneath the cloud, fresh water gives way to salt water, and the atmosphere becomes darker and more mysterious. On the slow ascent along the cenote’s walls, divers can admire huge stalactites that reveal times when water levels were much lower.

Angelita is an adventure reserved for experienced divers, typically explored to depths of around 35 meters (110 ft). It is also a popular destination for technical and decompression dives, offering both challenge and wonder in equal measure.

A dive in Angelita is more than an immersion — it’s a journey into another world, where nature, mystery, and beauty merge into an unforgettable underwater experience.

Cenote Aktun Ha

Unlike other deep cenotes, Aktun Ha offers a much more relaxed and accessible diving experience, perfect for those who want to admire the underwater magic from a different perspective.

With a maximum depth of only 12 meters (40 ft), this cenote allows divers to spend more time underwater, enjoying a calm and safe environment. Wide beams of natural light illuminate the interior, revealing unique rock formations that make this dive truly memorable.

Aktun Ha invites you to connect with the environment in a different way, appreciating the cenote’s beauty without rush and with a complete sense of tranquility. An ideal experience both for those seeking something different and for divers who want to extend their exploration time underwater.

Cenote Chikin Ha

Located about 5 km south of Puerto Aventuras, Chikin Ha is a breathtaking cenote that offers one of the most fascinating cavern diving experiences in the Riviera Maya.

From its main entrance, divers can access two different life-lines. The first is a spacious passage where natural light floods in through the opening, while the second leads to an area where part of the ceiling has collapsed, forming an air dome. Here, divers can surface and admire the stunning rock formations, including two levels of stalactites.

Along the entrance, tree trunks and branches extend into the water, creating a spectacular laser-like light show on sunny days. Chikin Ha is also famous for its halocline, a mesmerizing effect where salt and fresh water mix, distorting light and creating fascinating visual illusions.

With its large chambers and a maximum depth of 14 meters (45 ft), Chikin Ha is ideal for novice cavern divers, while also offering long penetrations for experienced cave divers. It is even home to the largest underwater stalactite in the world, making this cenote a must for adventure seekers.

El Pit

El Pit is a deep and dramatic cenote, hidden in the jungle just 2.8 km past Dos Ojos. Its entrance is steep and narrow, so care is needed—pulleys are often used to lower heavy equipment.

The best time to dive El Pit is in the morning, when the sunlight penetrates the depths creating an unforgettable spectacle. Descending through the crystal-clear water, divers cross a halocline layer and reach a mystical hydrogen sulfide cloud at 25 meters (75 ft). From this eerie cloud, tree branches seem to rise from the depths, creating the illusion of a submerged forest.

Below the cloud, El Pit continues into the darkness, descending well beyond 40 meters (130 ft). Above, cavernous overhangs and sloping ceilings adorned with stalactites frame the scene. At around 10 meters (30 ft), divers can witness the breathtaking laser-like beams of sunlight piercing through the cenote’s vertical opening.

This combination of depth, mystery, and natural light makes El Pit one of the most spectacular cenotes in the Riviera Maya, reserved for experienced divers in search of adventure.

Dos Ojos

Located about 1 km south of Xel-Há and 25 km north of Tulum, Dos Ojos is one of the most famous and beautiful cenotes in the world. Its name, meaning “Two Eyes”, comes from the pair of circular cenotes that sit side by side, connected to one of the longest underwater cave systems on Earth.

Known for its shallow dives and crystal-clear visibility, Dos Ojos allows divers to enjoy extended bottom times while exploring spectacular cave decorations. In the cenote called the “First Eye”, two different cavern dive routes begin and end. The Dos Ojos Cavern Dive follows along the “Second Eye”, where abundant daylight illuminates the underwater scenery.

Here, divers can swim around massive columns and stalactites, admire backlit effects from the entrance, and be surprised by the unique formations hidden along the way.

With its combination of accessibility, beauty, and world-class cave system, Dos Ojos is a must for cavern and cave diving enthusiasts, offering an unforgettable adventure in the heart of the Riviera Maya.
